Who does God say that I am? - Sunday

Who does God say that I am?

WHO DOES GOD SAY THAT I AM?

One of the biggest lies that Christians believe today is that they are still a sinner. Now before you freak out, let me explain. I used to think that was blasphemy. Because let's be honest, most churches in America preach that we are all just sinners in need of a savior. Which is true. Until we accept Jesus.

When I lived in Australia, I was having a conversation with my roommate one morning and mid-conversation he said that he wasn’t a sinner, he was a saint. WHOA. That did NOT sit right with me because my entire life being raised in the church I was told that I was a sinner. It’s who I am. It’s what I identified as. It’s what most Christians identify as. But what really doesn’t make sense is that most of those same Christians that call themselves sinners will also consider themselves saints. That’s what we like to call a split personality. It doesn’t work like that. You can’t be a sinner and a saint at the same time. You can’t be a sinner saved by grace either because if you’ve been saved by grace you’re no longer a sinner. You’re just a saint. Period.

The reason so many churches preach that we are sinners from the stage is that they are preaching to people who are not yet believers. But once you accept Jesus into your life as your personal savior everything is different. You are now a saint along with a bunch of other things!

Now does that mean you no longer sin? Absolutely not. That would be blasphemy. BUT what it does mean is that by calling yourself a sinner you are now making excuses for when you do sin and nothing changes. By calling yourself a saint who sometimes sins, you are now convicted when you do sin, which produces real, deep, honest heart change.

It’s one little flip that changes EVERYTHING.

Speaking TRUTH over yourself is one of the most important things you can do as a believer. Being confident in who God says you are and actually believing it whether or not you currently see it in the physical realm. I don’t fully understand how it works a lot of the time, but I know that when you speak out who God says you are, compared to who society says you are, something happens in the spiritual realm that alters your situation. And honestly, I would much rather listen to what the one true God of the Universe says about me than Sheryl at the office or your uncle Hank.

So what does God say about you?

He says you’re a prince in a holy nation, you’re a child of God, you are an heir to the throne, when God looks at you He sees you as flawless and pure no matter what you did in the past. He says you’re amazing, and beautiful, and that he has GREAT plans for your life - taking you from glory to glory to be more like Him. These are the truths that God says about you and desperately desires for you to speak over yourself.

There is verse after verse that talks about your identity but for some reason a lot of Christians still fail to understand it and accept false things over their lives once they’ve become a believer.

I mean, look at Scripture.

Read Ephesians 4:22-25.

Read Romans 8:15-17.

Read 1 Peter 2:9-10.

The list goes on. Verse after verse after verse. You are a new creation that is no longer a sinner - you are a SAINT. Accepting anything less for your life is a waste because it isn’t who you are and it definitely isn’t who God sees you as.

So even though I thought my old roommate was insane and teaching me false doctrine for a minute - he was right. And having that new understanding completely changed my life. And I hope it changes yours. Peace.
